How to improve the quality of eggs before IVF
Taking IVF means you’re doing everything you can to increase your chances of embracing parenthood. And one of the ways you can do that is by improving the quality of your eggs. Working on improving egg quality will not only keep you focused but also give you a sense of control over the IVF process.
There are 2 ways to improve your eggs’ quality: one is through a healthy diet, and the other through lifestyle changes.
Through a healthy diet
No, we aren’t talking bout dieting or fasting, but more on the lines of adding nutritional foods to your diet. This can be done in the following ways:
- Focus your diet around fresh produce to make sure your vitamin needs are being met. This could be done by eating one produce and one fruit of your choice with every meal.
- Prefer lean meats over those high-fat ones. Proteins help regulate your fertility, but high-fat protein can do more harm than good. So pick up fish, turkey, chicken, tofu over others.
- Complex carbs are better than simple. This would help you keep your blood sugar in check. The readily available sources of complex carbs are whole grains and starchy vegetables.
- Cut down on junk! As junk food contains refined carbs and trans fats, it could harm your cholesterol levels. So when a craving hits you and you wish to eat processed food, read the label to ensure it doesn’t contain trans fats.
Through lifestyle changes
Lifestyle changes don’t mean completely overhauling your current schedule; rather, it indicates making small incremental changes. These few changes can help you improve egg quality drastically:
- Ditch the alcohol! And also, caffeine. Both will make it harder for you to conceive. Instead, pick up a habit of decaf green tea drinking.
- Quit Smoking, and we cannot emphasize this enough. Smoking leads to faster degradation of eggs, which is opposite to what we want to achieve. Ask your doctor for help if you’re unable to quit by yourself.
- Lose weight if you’re shooting the BMI chart. Extra weight can put pressure on your ovaries and, in turn, affect your eggs and fertility. Exercising five days a week should be made a part of daily life. But make it a point to not stress about this weight because stress might just cause more harm.
- Manage your stress. High levels of stress can trigger hormones like cortisol, which may harshly affect your eggs. Include stress-relief activities like meditation in your daily life.
