How to Improve Egg Quality?

The decreasing quality and the quantity of the egg can be the cause of infertility in many, So the question which arises is can we improve the egg quality naturally?

We can discuss this in 4 parts

1.Hormonal Imbalance:-

Hormonal imbalance in women can affect the egg quality. For example, like Polycystic ovarian syndrome PCOS, hypothyroidism or any problem in the hypothalamus or pituitary affect the ovulation and quality of the egg. So, it is essential to assess the disease from its root and then treat the cause which will help improve the quality of the eggs.

2.Diet:-

Nowadays the intake of transfats and dioxins are increasing in our diet . Along with them we are taking in a lot of refined carbohydrates in our diet. The excessive exposure to pesticides and fertilizers affect the reproductive axis .So, one should try to take in as less of trans fats ,refined carbohydrates.There should be a lot of intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. The consumption of organic vegetables should be encouraged. A dietitian should be consulted to have a balanced intake of proteins and vitamins in the diet.The effect will be seen after 2 to 3 months of regular follow of the diet plan.

3.Tobacco:-

Many times active or passive smoking affects our egg quality. So one should protect themselves from the exposure of passive smoking, The consumption of tobacco affects the quality of the egg,hence it should be avoided.

4.Supplements-

There are supplements available which claim to improve the quality of the egg. Supplements like

a) DHEA-
They are mild male hormones which are converted to estrogen and androgen in the body. Many studies were done on DHEA which stated that it helped in improving the quality and quantity of the egg. Recently some papers stated that it is still in the research stage whether it increases the egg quality or helps in improving egg quality in some subset of patients.It has its side effects like acne,ovarian cyst formation. It should always be taken after consulting a doctor and should not be taken as an over the counter medicine.

b) Coenzyme Q-
There is lot of research coming up about the use of Coenzyme Q. It is a mitochondrial energiser. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell and are found in abundance in the oocyte. Mitochondria is responsible for the initial stages of pregnancy from fertilisation to implantation. There are very promising results from studies conducted on the use of Coenzyme Q for improving the egg quality. It should always be used after a doctors prescription only. The improvement in the quality can occur after the use of the supplements are used for 2 to 3 months.
