Hysteroscopy Diagnostic

In this method, a small diameter device is inserted into the uterus that has a light and a small camera in the end so that the fertility specialist can see inside the uterus. It can be used for both surgical and diagnostic purpose by the doctors.

Hysteroscopy Procedure

A tool named speculum is used to spread the cervix and then the hysteroscopy device is inserted through the vaginal opening. The device is first moved through the cervix and then it is inserted in uterus finally. Carbon dioxide gas or liquid is sent gently into the uterus through the device to clear and widen the surface. The doctor will then look inside the device to see the uterus and fallopian tube to diagnose if any issue exists or to do any necessary surgical procedure.

A fertility specialist will do a hysteroscopy to determine the actual cause of abnormal bleeding. It is also done to remove any type of growth inside the uterus like fibroids and polyps. The best thing about this is that the doctor can treat the problem during the test only. Whenever the procedure is used to do surgeries, all surgical devices will be taken in the uterus through the device to perform surgery. The procedure is usually painless but you might feel cramps at the time. According to the types of surgery, you will also be given anaesthesia at the fertility center to make you feel relaxed.

The procedure just takes 5 to 30 minutes and for the diagnostic purpose, it is usually done in your doctor’s clinic only. However, for surgery purpose, you might need to go to hospital for the procedure.
